STRENGTHENING LOCAL ADVOCACY LEADERSHIP IN EAST AFRICA (SLALE)

DAYO partnered with DSW Kenya in the implementation of Strengthening Local Advocacy Leadership in East Africa (SLALE) project. The Project covers 3 years period, funded through a grant from the Hewlett Foundation. SLALE aims to enable 12 youth-focused Civil Society Organizations (FPRH Allies) in Kenya and Tanzania to implement effective and coordinated FPRH advocacy. DSW will reach all FPRH allies with training, while adding a mentoring phase targeting selected FPRH allies more intensively as FPRH Allys. In Kenya, SLALE will be implemented in West Pokot and Kilifi.

DAYO and other 11 youth-focused Civil Society Organizations agreed to cover the period 3 years from 1 January 2018 to 30 June 2021,

1) Training Phase (March – July 2018)

a. All FPRH Allies will be trained on FPRH Advocacy

2) Mentored Advocacy Phase (July 2018-December 2019)

a. 4-6 selected FPRH Allies will be selected as FPRH Allies and lead advocacy strategies.

b. Other FPRH allies will continue to be involved to the project as stated in section 2 and 3.

3) Adaption Phase (January – July 2020)

a. All FPRH Allies will be involved in the identification of lessons learned and best practices as stated in section 2 and 3

DAYO will benefit from four trainings facilitated by DSW Kenya, each lasting five-days. Pending results from the assessments, thematic topics might include:

• Organizational vision and advocacy strategy development.

• Policy frameworks and processes in Family Planning and Reproductive Health.

• Techniques and tools for evidence-based advocacy.

• Collaboration and networking in advocacy.



As part of the training program, DSW Kenya will support trainees in identifying key challenges that need to be addressed in their counties and in developing advocacy strategies addressing those challenges. At the end of the training program, all participating CSOs will be invited to submit proposals for funding to implement these advocacy strategies. Those CSO’s selected as sub-grantees will not only receive funding but also benefit from mentoring and other technical assistance throughout the duration of their sub-grant.
